You sneak up to the main entrance of the villa. The door is not locked. Veronica never locks the front door. You slip into the main hallway, like you have done so many times before. Even though you were hired to kill the vampire, you have to admit to yourself that you have fallen slightly in love with her. Over the past couple months of you watching over Veronica, studying her every routine, you can’t help but wonder how life would be, belonging to a vampire. Giving up autonomy over your own blood, maybe even more aspects of life. The thought about this makes you feel oddly warm and happy on the inside. You sneak up to the stairs to hide behind the curtain that gives a nice view of the living room. You two have watched many TV series over the past months, with you hiding, and Veronica not knowing of your existence. On the last stair, you feel the floor slipping out from under you. You begin to fall down the stairs. Backwards. Panic shoots through your head.
Is this how it ends? With no way to catch yourself, you will surely be heavily inured by the time you’re down there. Veronica will hear you, hopefully just call emergency services…
Just before your body hits the stairs, you can feel an incredibly strong gust of wind, and you feel like you’re landing on a cloud.
You are actually landing on a cloud. An ash-gray one. Said cloud pushes you back up the stairs. Or more, floats you up. Back on top your legs do not want to work anymore, as you sink to the floor. The brain too fully of adrenaline to form any clear thoughts.
The cloudy mist starts to surround you. Before you can even begin to wonder what the mist is, if it is dangerous, it begins to solidify. The clouds that are wrapped around your upper body turn into two arms. Veronica’s arms. Your heart starts to beat even faster than it already has. She whispers something into your ear: “Shhhh… You can calm down now. You’re safe here. I’ll protect you.”
And somehow, it actually works. Slowly, you begin to relax your muscles; the heartbeat slows to a normal level again. Her right arm lets go of you, while the left arm wanders up onto your chest. As if to feel your heart beat. In a different situation, with a different vampire, you would be panicking now. But you are here with Veronica. Her words make you trust her. Your desire to be around her amplifies this. And her cold, smooth hand pressing you against her chest leaves you few options anyway.
Gently, with her right hand, she grabs your head by the hair and pushes it to the left. It did hurt slightly, but the touch of her hand against your scalp is making up for that tenfold. She runs her cold fingers over your neck; you can feel her finger touching every muscle, fiber and vein. Her fingers feel like they were just moisturized. The moisture adds to the smoothness. They are also quite skinny. Yet also strong, as she pinches some tendons in your neck. As she plays with your neck, she whispers something again: “I know what you’re doing for the past couple of months. Nothing happens on this land without my knowledge. And you will pay for it. With your blood.” A slight shiver runs down your spine, as you can clearly feel her breath on your neck. And the way she said the last word. You are excited, the pretty vampire wants your blood! But also, you can’t help but feel a bit scared as well. You have many questions for her, about the upcoming bite, about its healing process, actually also why she saved you. But you can’t work up the courage to even form those questions into words, even less actually ask them. There is, however, one question that requires an immediate answer: “May I?”, she quietly asked.
Is the vampire really asking for consent? Or is this just a trap? Before you can fully process your worries, your brain has already reacted. A quick nod from you, which is promptly followed by sharp and immediate pain. You can feel the sharp teeth penetrating your skin. It feels like two tiny daggers being pushed deep into your neck. As she starts drinking the blood straight from your veins, you can’t help but notice your body getting limp. That was to be expected, vampire saliva is highly sedative. This ensures the safety of both the vampire and the prey, as a jerking movement with teeth embedded could risk breaking those. But that’s fine. You trust Veronica. She said I would be safe with her.

When you wake up again, you lay in a big bed with soft bedsheets. You are still fully clothed in the clothes you wore yesterday. On one side it is good that the vampire did not undress you, on the other side… it would have been really exciting.
Slowly, the memories from yesterday come back to you. You fainted after Veronica drank your blood. The entire concept of this is still really exciting. You roll over and hug a pillow really tightly. The pillow squeaks. Your half-asleep break jerks fully awake, as you realize you just full force squished the Veronica that was laying next to you.
You start to stumble over your own sentences, as you try your best to apologize and back off. Veronica is having none of it tho, wrapping her own arms around you, keeping you close to her. “Shhhht. Do not worry, I am not hurt; it was just… unexpected.”
She whispers something into your ear that makes your heart jump: “I can sense your thoughts, so I know you weren’t trying to harm me.” Is this how she knew you were sneaking around her Villa? And does she know how much you enjoyed the sensation of the bite? And, even more scarily, does she know that you have fallen in love with her? She grins into your face: “Yes, to all of that. Love you too”
